Lunch at Mom's Cafe, Plattsmouth, NE

On our quest for lunch we needed to only step carefully across the snowy Main Street to Mom's Cafe, a local eatery that was warm and filled with good smells of lunch cooking. They had a dry erase board set up advertising the hot beef plate for $6.95 as the day's special. The Cafe is in one of the old high ceilinged buildings of historic downtown Plattsmouth. The walls were covered with reproductions of signs for drinks and food as well as old fashioned pictures. Along one wall there was a long strand of string on which 3 or 4 dozen old Valentines (the kind we used to pass out to friends at school) were strung; Valentine decorations also were found in the glass display cabinets. An old fashined stove and a vintage table and kitchen cabinet also held some of "mom's" display items such as old glassware and some Aunt Jemima jars.

We quickly got a table for four and had no trouble choosing what we wanted to eat. I chose the omelette with spinach, swiss cheese and mushrooms from their breakfast-is-served-all-day menu, while Claudia had a salad with grilled chicken; Terri and Mary each picked the catfish, one as part of a dinner plate and the other on a sandwich roll. Portions were generous and each meal was about $7.00. We all enjoyed our food and would certainly come back again.
